 ■ Meet Our Artisans
 ■ Supporting Artisans
We endeavor to achieve this in the following ways:
supporting and assisting
  • Sourcing handicrafts from co-operatives of artisans and crafts persons so that they get remunerated twice: once for the craftwork they do and again their share from operating profits.
  • Encouraging family based groups headed by a master craftsman or experienced artisan who along with other skilled craftsmen produce the crafts marketed by Asha Handicrafts.
  • Supporting groups that assist artisans by securing orders, financing their purchase of raw materials, supervision of their production process and control the quality of their output. We ensure that there is a fair return for their inputs.
  • Keeping operating margins low in order to make the handicrafts available to the Alternative Trade Organizations and our other overseas buyers at reasonable prices.
We ensure better and more ethical business practices because
  • We do not trade in products that are unsafe; such as painted toys with lead content or textiles that are not printed with AZO free dyes
  • We do not purchase crafts from anyone employing children at any stage of production.
  • We insist that there is no gender discrimination among the workers employed by the producer groups. The piece rates be same for identical work done by men and women
