Asha Handicrafts Celebrated World Fair Trade Day 2022

The World Fair Trade Day 2024 celebration falls on the second Saturday in the Month of May every year. This is a global celebration led by Fair Trade Enterprises across the globe. This year World Fair Trade Day celebration took place on May 14th 2022 advocating the theme “Climate Justice #LetsDoItFair”.

Asha Handicrafts Association took the opportunity to create awareness and set the course for a future where equity and sustainability is enjoyed by everyone. Some of the Climate positive actions that were taken across the craft centers were: –

  1. A Tree plantation drive was carried out at the Artisan Regional Centre- Saharanpur contributing to make the world a greener place.
  2. ‘Throw plastic use copper bottles’ was a campaign organised at Jaipur, focusing on innovative solutions to the planet’s ecological and economic challenge.
  3. Artisans from Agra were honoured with a shawl and given saplings encouraging them to contribute to human and environmental health.
  4. A drawing competition was organised for children on the theme ‘Save our Environment’ through which they were educated on simple ways to conserve food, water, electricity etc.
  5. ‘Wheels for Change’ was another environmentally friendly activity through which artisans all over the country were given bicycles as an eco-friendly mode of transport.
  6. The Asha staff participated in an awareness session on Climate justice for change and were motivated with practical steps to conserve energy in our immediate surroundings.

Asha Handicrafts Association as a Fair-Trade organisation is committed to protecting the environment and promoting Climate Justice as we work alongside the Indian artisans. Investing in the lives of the artisan communities, we aim to create a healthy world for the show and future generations.

Climate change is sometimes misunderstood as being about changes in the weather.  In reality, it is about changes in our very way of life. – Paul Polman
