Sujata Singh: Inspiring Artisan Supported by Asha Handicrafts During COVID-19

Jaipur, the heart of Rajasthan, a city well-known for its tourist attractions, is home to Sujata Singh a 28-year-old artisan. She lives with her husband, son and parents. Sujata’s talent & passion lies in felt handicrafts.

Little did she know that the COVID-19 pandemic would wreak such havoc in her community. The imposed lockdown meant no work, no movement and above all no money. “While waiting for the lockdown to be lifted, my husband lost his job at the printing press and soon it was the same for me. There was no money to pay our house rent. Daily life became very difficult and I didn’t know where to look for help. During this time of anxiety, we received the much-needed support from Asha Handicrafts who sent food supplies, health and safety kits and even gave us an educational grant for my son’s education. I am sincerely grateful to Asha for the prompt help in my families time of need.”
